Grow·Alpha course
The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith.
It’s relaxed, low key, friendly and fun. There is a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other.
Alpha is a place where no question is out of bounds. You are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. And it’s supported by all the main Christian denominations.
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for everyone, especially:
- Those wanting to investigate Christianity
- New Christians
- Newcomers to the church
- Those who want to brush up on the basics
We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome.
What is involved?
The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’ After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.
The course we are running is for 7 weeks. It contains the same material as ‘classic’ Alpha, except that it’s been ‘squeezed’ (into seven weeks), ‘squashed’ (into thirty minute talks) and ‘spiced’ (with multi-media ingredients). You don’t have to come to the whole course – just pop along for the first night and see what you think. No pressure.
Near the end of the course there is also an option for a day away to discuss the Holy Spirit.
What does it cost?
There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you may be asked to make a contribution towards food.

Alpha evening schedule
- 19:00 Supper: An informal supper is served, and you eat with other guests in your small group
- 19:30 Talk: A talk on the topic for the evening, such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’
- 20:15 Coffee and biscuits
- 20:30 Small groups: You break up into your small groups for a relaxed and informal discussion time. The small group consists of no more than 12 people, including one or two leaders who will host the group and lead the discussions. This is a time when you can ask any questions that you may have, discuss the talk, study the Bible etc
- 21:15 End: The evening will end no later than 21:15
