Trainings & Courses
Life is full of changes and different seasons. To make sure you’re equipped for each of those we are running a number of courses and trainings throughout all our congregations.
Equipping You in the scriptures
We believe that the Word of God is the most powerful thing in the world. Helping you to understand how the bible relates to your particular situation in life is the best equipping we can possibly do.
Do you want to get to know the bible better? Do you want to learn what it has to say to your particular situation in life, such as dating, getting engaged, expecting a child or struggling with debt? That’s what our trainings and courses are for! Far from being just theoretical, they are deeply practical and full of helpful applications.

Marriage Preparation Course
Who is the Marriage Preparation Course for?
The Marriage Preparation Course is designed for couples considering marriage and wishing to build a strong and lasting relationship. While based on Christian principles, it is relevant and helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background. The course runs over two Saturdays, usually a month apart. Each day includes short talks, both live and on DVD, interspersed with exercises and questions for you to discuss together as a couple. Privacy is respected, there is no group discussion or group work, but couples can discuss issues with a married ‘support couple’ if they wish. Lunch and refreshments will be served during the day.
What does the Marriage Preparation Course cover?
Topics covered include:
- Resolving conflict
- Keeping love alive
- Shared values
For more information about the course in general, please see the website of the Marriage Preparation Course.
The couple survey and the marriage support couples
We also ask you to complete a questionnaire called the Couple Survey which is completed online. The questionnaire will help you recognise issues to discuss as a couple prior to marriage. Since training is required to interpret the results, we will not pass the results to you directly. Instead, you can meet with a support couple over dinner to discuss any issues. Our support couples have all been married longer than two years and have been trained to interpret the couple survey. We will email you details of the questionnaire and a link to the website after week one of the course.
When is the next course?
We hold two Marriage preparation courses a year, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn. Each course runs over two Saturdays of which both need to be attended.
Registration for the 2017 spring course (Saturday, 18 March & Saturday, 8th April) is now open. Please click here to register.

CAP money course
Debt is one of the biggest enemies of a fulfilled life. Yet so many people, especially young people, seem to not have learned how to manage their money. The Money Charity published the following alarming statistics for 2014:
- People in the UK had an accumulated debt of £1.448 Trillion at the end of June 2014
- The average debt per household was £54.828 at the end of June 2014
The CAP Money Course is a revolutionary money management course that teaches people budgeting skills and a simple, cash-based system that really works. This course will help anyone to get more in control of their finances, so they can budget, save and prevent debt.
For more information please see the CAP Money Course Website.
Why should I do the CAP Money Course?
The CAP Money Course is a DVD based course that will teach you:
- How to build a budget. This is the cornerstone of managing your money well. The session includes advice on how to increase your income and how to cut costs.
- The CAP Money system. This system will help to simplify your money and make it understandable. It operates using three accounts for your money: a regular payments account, a cash account and a savings account.
- To use cash instead of cards. Living on cash and getting away from cards means you know exactly where you are and helps you to spend less money.
Doing the CAP Money Course means you will be able to budget, save and spend on the things you want.
After watching the DVDs, trained CAP Money Coaches will be available to help you build your budget and answer any questions you may have. A unique benefit of the CAP Money Course is that, if you discover that you can’t balance your budget and pay off any debts, you will be able to access CAP Money Plus. This is an Internet based debt counselling service from Christians Against Poverty.
What to Expect
The CAP Money Course is run in thousands of locations throughout the UK by churches that partner with Christians Against Poverty. The course you sign up for will usually run over three evenings in consecutive weeks, but some are run during the day. Some courses are run from the church building and others in cafes or similar. The number of people attending can range from 2 to 10.
